Diaper need is a leading cause of depression among mothers.
1 in 3 mothers in america report suffering from diaper need. Diapers are not covered in any anti-poverty programs.
A study on diaper need suggested that an adequate supply of diapers may reduce parenting stress, an important factor influencing child health and development.
Financial Impact
Diapers cost $80 to $100 per month per baby. Parents struggling with diaper need often miss school or work because they cannot afford a supply of diapers for the children while they are at daycare.
Diaper need can also lead to serious infections in babies, which means a day off of work, lost wages, and increased healthcare costs for parents.
Physical Impact
Parents suffering from diaper need often try to maximize diapers by washing, reusing, or changing them less often, increasing the risk of the baby developing a uti.
Leaking and soiled diapers can also lead to illness spread within the family. The baby’s frequent hand-to-mouth behavior can increase the spread of germs from soiled diapers.
